Situated at the Batu Buruk Sports Complex in Kuala Terengganu - one of Malaysia's most beloved coastal cities and a hotbed for community football - KTC Arena serves local leagues, youth academies, and public evening play sessions throughout the year. UNIGRASS was selected to supply and supervise the complete installation of this artificial turf football field, replacing natural grass that proved impossible to maintain under Terengganu's relentless tropical heat, monsoon rains, and heavy daily usage.
THE CHALLENGE
1. Extreme Equatorial UV Degradation
Malaysia experiences high-intensity, year-round solar radiation. Under UV temperatures exceeding 60°C on the field surface, lower-grade synthetic fibers quickly become brittle, fade in color, and shed yarn, rendering the field unplayable within a few short years.
2. Torrential Monsoon Downpours
Malaysia is subject to sudden, heavy tropical rainstorms that can dump massive amounts of water in minutes. Without an exceptionally designed subgrade and high-permeability synthetic turf backing, a field will quickly experience water pooling, base erosion, and long downtimes due to flooding.
3. Continuous Multi-Session Wear and Tear
To maximize operational revenue, the facility operates frequently, hosting back-to-back community league matches, training camps, and public rentals. The turf fibers must possess elite structural memory and wear resistance to prevent flat-matting and maintain natural ball roll.
THE UNIGRASS SOLUTION
1. Advanced UV-Stabilized Fibers
We supplied a premium 50mm stem-shaped monofilament yarn. The central "stem" spine gives the grass fibers outstanding structural memory, ensuring they bounce back upright after heavy footsteps. The yarn compound is enriched with advanced UV-inhibitors, scientifically tested by SGS to withstand 5,000+ hours of continuous weathering without cracking, fading, or losing tensile strength.
2. High-Flow Vertical Drainage Backing
The backing of our turf features reinforced drainage holes precisely spaced to allow water to drain vertically at a rate exceeding 1,500 mm per hour. When combined with a free-draining crushed stone base, heavy monsoon rain passes straight through the turf within minutes, keeping the playing surface safe, non-slip, and ready for immediate play.
3. Integrated, Woven White Line Markings
Instead of using painted lines that wear away or glues that can fail under high humidity, UNIGRASS integrated white turf yarn directly during the manufacturing process. These inlaid boundary and penalty box lines are physically seamed into the main turf system, ensuring they remain permanently visible and flush with the playing surface.
4. Eco-Friendly and Safe Heavy-Duty Backing
The backing system uses non-toxic, eco-friendly SBR Latex that complies fully with CE, REACH, and RoHS environmental standards. It maintains high dimensional stability and superior tuft bind strength under high moisture and soil acidity.
