PROJECT OVERVIEW

Football is the most popular sport across the Gulf states, and Bahrain is no exception. With a young, sports-active population and a strong community football culture, demand for accessible, commercial 5-a-side venues has grown rapidly in recent years. The client approached UNIGRASS seeking a reliable, experienced supplier who could deliver not just artificial turf, but a complete, ready-to-operate court system.

THE CHALLENGES

1. Extreme Heat and UV Radiation

Bahrain experiences summer ground temperatures exceeding 65 °C. Conventional artificial grass fibres not engineered for desert climates will fade, harden, and deform within 1–2 seasons under sustained UV exposure. The client needed a turf that stays green, resilient and player-safe year after year — without costly annual replacements.

2. Extended Evening Play Hours

Because daytime temperatures in summer often make outdoor sport unbearable, commercial football venues in Bahrain operate primarily in the evening and night hours. Without a professional floodlighting system, the entire business model fails. The lighting had to deliver even pitch illumination, adequate lux levels for competitive play, and long-term energy efficiency.

3. Single-Source

The client had previously experienced friction with multi-vendor projects where responsibility for quality problems became disputed between the turf supplier, fencing contractor, and electrician. They explicitly needed a single point of contact capable of coordinating all three work streams and delivering a fully finished, tested court.

THE UNIGRASS SOLUTION

1. UV-Stabilised Artificial Grass

UNIGRASS supplied a UV-stabilised, heat-resistant football artificial grass. UV resistance is built into the PE monofilament fibre at the yarn extrusion stage — not applied as a surface coating — ensuring the material stays green, flexible, and performance-ready across years of desert sun exposure. The dual-tone stripe surface, perforated PP drainage backing, and precision seam jointing complete a surface that won't fade, harden, or lift under Bahrain's conditions.

2. Professional LED Floodlighting for Full-Night Operation

UNIGRASS installed a high-mast LED floodlight delivering uniform illumination across the entire playing surface — no dark zones, no hotspots. Energy-efficient, instant warm-up, and weatherproof for extreme heat and sand. With the lights on, the venue runs every evening from sunset through late night. It is the exact window when Gulf-region commercial football generates its revenue.

3. Complete Turnkey Delivery

UNIGRASS managed the full project scope, including hot-dip galvanized cage fencing, artificial turf installation, and LED floodlighting. The cage frame was erected and anchored before turf work began. One point of contact. One handover. No vendor disputes.
